Having loved and read many times, every book I could find by Roald Dahl when I was a child, and then read them again, out loud to my own children, I was thrilled to come across a collection of recipes inspired by his marvelous stories.

“Revolting Recipes is an interpretation of some of the scrumptious and wonderfully disgusting dishes that appear in Roald’s books” (Felicity Dahl, 1994), and every bit as entertaining to read through as his cherished books.


From The Witches

green pea soup

2 tablespoons butter

1 onion, chopped

5 green onions, chopped

1 potato, diced

2 cloves garlic, crushed

12 ounces frozen peas

2 cups of chicken stock

salt and pepper


6 ounces peas

5 ounces cream or ricotta cheese

Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Add the onion, green onions, potato and garlic.

Cover with a lid and cook over low heat for 10 minutes.

Add the peas, chicken stock, and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil and simmer slowly for about 15 minutes.

Remove from the heat and puree until liquefied.

Reheat. Serve in individual bowls, topped with peas and cream or ricotta to garnish. Season to taste with more salt and pepper if necessary.
