My husband rarely accepts one of my exploratory, experimental cocktails, choosing instead to mix himself a reliable, uncomplicated gin and soda or bourbon with a splash of water.

He happened to mention one evening, as we were preparing dinner how much he had enjoyed a delicious moscow mule that was offered on a recent night out with the guys, and I was hopeful we had discovered a pre-dinner drink to share and sip together.

MOSCOW MULE

Pour 1/4 cup club soda, 3 tablespoons of vodka, and 1 tablespoon of ginger syrup into a copper mug filled with ice, stir gently to combine. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Enjoy!

easy, lime, mint, quick, sumac, vodka

With my Husband away hunting wild turkey, my youngest son at a sleep over, and my daughter at a sewing lesson – I dropped my oldest child at his school dance (wearing dark green Boy Scout shorts and a shirt in a color that didn’t remotely match – but bravely choosing to go even though none of his friends would be there) I ended up with two delicious hours ALL TO MYSELF on a Friday night!! It was a glorious relaxing time, and once every one I was responsible for had been picked up, returned home, and readied for bed, I continued to savor the evening but this time with an exquisite, relaxing cocktail in hand.

SUMAC MINT FIZZ

sumac mint fizz

3/4 cup sugar

3 tablespoons sumac

2 limes, halved and sliced, plus wedges for serving

1/2 cup fresh mint leaves

vodka

sparkling water

Bring sugar and 3/4 cup water to a boil in a small saucepan, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Stir in sumac. Remove from heat, let cool completely. Strain mixture, discarding solids. Refrigerate, covered until cold.

Muddle limes and mint in the bottom of a large pitcher. Stir in vodka and sumac syrup. Add ice and top with sparkling water (I mixed the cocktail in a glass, adjusting the amount of ingredients). Serve in ice-filled glasses garnished with lime wedges and additional mint.

Enjoy!

We were firmly caught up in the powerball frenzy last week, and along with millions of others bought tickets. We had so much fun dreaming and scheming and imagining what we would do with our gazillions of dollars!!

I couldn’t wait to see the winning numbers being drawn, and excitedly mixed up a delicious, fruity cocktail to sip while watching the show, and eventually to salute the actual three winners across the country.

I had planned to meet a group of friends for yoga, and amidst the lovely array of appetizers, and catch up chat and cocktails we even managed to move a little. I blended Elderflower Bellinis for us to share and having an abundance of peach nectar enabled me to enjoy other peach inspired cocktails throughout the week.

Sipping this refreshing, well balanced cocktail out on the back deck was delayed, after my Son asked me to walk down to the park with him. Once we had reached as high as we could on the swings, and climbed the castle, we meandered home in the growing dusk, and rested out on the back deck.
